For the Athens Olympics in 2004 Nike launched the glpbal Nike Speed campaign. AKQA designed and built the nike speed flash website, featuring Nike's atheltes, training tips , mini training games and Nikes latest range of products.
The site brought speed to life using a variety of interactive and highly dynamic animations, and interactive elements to exemplify the idea of movement and speed. Users could explore the Nike athletes profiles, explire products and play mini flash games. The games aimed to train and improve the users reactions.
The site required highly interactive and dynamic animations which would have been monstrous is not impossible with traditional time line animations. As such I developed a 3D engine in actionscript to allow us to build and animate the scene/content transitions and interactive elements using code.
Actionscript had just released V2 which allowed us to write much more organised code. We also further develop our multi language capabilities. as the projected required us to support 52 locals (up from the 16 we supported at the time).
