Having clean installed Mac OS X i discovered the default svn installation was out of date with the svn repository. Having searched google i found the following articles that provided everything i needed to get svn 1.6 running on my mac.
Follow the above tutorials and you'll ensentially download the svn binaries for Mac OS X, Update the Environments PATH and refresh (terminal) to effect the environment changes.
